Fitness Bootcamp….the phrase often strikes fear in the heart of those who hear it.  What is a Fitness Bootcamp, you might ask?  Well, a search online for the phrase would turn up about as many different shapes, sizes and formats as there are cities in Orange County.  The one common thread is that you can always count on a kick-butt workout that is situated in the great outdoors.

Why has there been such an explosion of Fitness Bootcamps around the country?  Shane Roberts, Certified Personal Trainer with Millennium Fitness in Fountain Valley, believes it’s because it changes up the “same old same old” of going to the gym with zillions of other sweaty bodies.  “The concept is not new, it’s just a new spin on old proven techniques - getting outside to train and using the environment as your gym.  I think people sometimes get bored in the gym.  Fitness Bootcamps give them a chance to do something active outside, while enjoying the structure, camaraderie and accountability they are used to in their in-gym classes.”

Another benefit is that it takes people to a different level than the gym can. Where some might be intimidated by weights, or afraid of them due to fear of injury, Fitness Bootcamps feel more “do-able” due to using your own body weight for most of the exercises.  People can wrap their head around the concept better.  And they get stronger at the same time they are losing weight.

What makes us different at Millennium Fitness?  We do our best to dissolve any fear of Bootcamps by encouraging everyone to come on out and give it a try.  Most of the Bootcamps out there are so hard core that they don’t allow room for children or seniors to participate and at the very least, they require that someone have a higher-than-average fitness level.  We, on the other hand, have 8-year-old kids, 64-year-old men, super fit moms, and teens that haven’t worked out in years.  Everyone can do the same exercise, we just modify it to their level.  Everyone gets their own phenomenal workout, regardless of how hard or “not-so-hard” the person right next them might be training.

We also place a huge emphasis on families training together.  We are a family-run business and we relate to wanting activities that we can do as a family that get us outside and active.  Even our 2-year-old son Max sometimes joins us!  We want to get people off the couch and get them active as a family. When you get the parents bringing the kid because they think the kid will benefit, then guess what, it gets the parent working out too.

In fact, we’ve had such a high response that we are gearing up to launch our all new first ever Children's’s Bootcamp specifically designed for ages 8 to 12 that will run at the same time as our regular Saturday Morning Workout.

Lastly, Bootcamps allow us to offer a lot of versatility and flexibility.  For one flat monthly rate, we are able to offer Monday/Wednesday/Friday bootcamps at various times and locations to accommodate almost any schedule.  There are no rooms to reserve – it’s just the great outdoors and limitless options.

So, no matter your age, size, or fitness level, if you are reading this article, we invite you to come on out and join us every Saturday morning, or join our Mon/Wed/Fri bootcamps.  You just might find yourself training right alongside 2-year-old Max.  Be prepared, he’s been doing this awhile and he just might kick your butt. ;-)
